Not only does the Glen of Rothes trout fishery offer visitors superb fishing at one of the premier waters in the north east of Scotland it has a lot more to offer the visitor. The wildlife at the fishery is an alternative for those who want to spend a few hours observing nature at its very best.
We have a regular visiting Osprey which flies in at least twice a day and and is sublime to watch. Early mornings and evenings are the main times they visit and can be observed sailing the air waves on the lookout for for a meal before swooping down majestically and lifting fish from the water before shaking its wings and adjusting its catch and circling as if to show his hunting prowess to those observers.
Best times are from 6am to 8am and from 6pm to 9pm in the evening.
Other wildlife are abundant with deer, pheasant, sparrow hawks, pied wagtails, goldfinch, willow warblers, mallard ducks with their young, heron, badgers, buzzards and otters.
Although you can never guarantee it there is always something for the wildlife enthusiast or photographer who may just catch that special moment of a lifetime.
There are purpose built hides to observe from and these are available on a booking only basis and limited to first come first served.
